[pregnancy-associated progenitor cell]
abbr. PAPC. This term pertains to a population of fetal cells that traffic between fetus and mother during pregnancy. These cells are also being referred to as transmigratory fetal cells. The phenomenon of bidirectional cell trafficking between fetus and mother during pregnancy has been observed in placental vertebrates including humans. Pregnancy-associated progenitor cells have the capacity to persist for a long time after a pregnancy and to integrate into multiple maternal organs (Khosrotehrani K and Bianchi DW, 2005; Nguyen Huu S et al, 2006; Ariga et al, 2001; Evans et al, 1999).
