symbol: otk. This Drosophila melanogaster protein, identified originally as Dtrk (Pulido et al), is encoded by gene CG8967. The protein is a receptor tyrosine kinase highly related to the trk family of mammalian neurotrophin receptors (Pulido et al, 1992). It is expressed during Drosophila embryogenesis in neurons in several areas of the developing nervous system and promotes cell adhesion in a homophilic, calcium ion-independent manner. The protein is being referred to also as PTK7 [protein tyrosine kinase 7] as it is considered to be the fly ortholog of this mammalian protein kinase.
