[myeloblast, myeloblastic]
Myeloblasts are the first morphologically identifiable and most primitive precursor cells in a succession of cell types developing into granulocytes (see also: hematopoiesis). These cells are still capable of cell division. Myeloblasts divide and mature into promyelocytes (progranulocytes), then myelocytes. The latter eventually mature into granular leukocytes through several recognizable stages that are no longer capable of cell division. Myeloblasts are an immature cell type in the bone marrow. Normally, this cell type is not found in the peripheral blood.
