[MCMV m131/129; murine cytomegalovirus m131/129] The open reading frame of m131 in the genome of murine cytomegalovirus is spliced at the 3' end to the adjacent downstream open reading frame, m129. The product encodes a homolog of chemokines. Virus mutants with a deletion of m131/129 replicate normally but inflammation responses to infection are markedly reduced (Fleming et al, 1999; Saederup and Mocarski, 2002). Saederup et al (2001) have reported that m131/129) is a determinant of dissemination that increases inflammation at initial sites of infection.
