[lysozyme-2] This Caenorhabditis elegans gene is one of several paralogs encoding a putative lysozyme and plays a role in innate immunity (Mallo et al, 2002). Troemel et al (2006) have reported that lys-2 expression is upregulated in response to Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. It protects against against infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Nandakumar M and Tan, 2008).
Knock-out of lys-2 expression decreases pathogen resistance against Bacillus thuringiensis, but overexpression of lys-2 does not increase resistance (Boehnisch et al, 2011).
