This Drosophila melanogaster gene, encoded by gene CG16910, has been identified by Rutschmann et al (2000) as a homolog of the mammalian I-kappa-B kinase (IKK) complex component IKK-gamma (called also NEMO). Kenny is required for the expression of genes encoding antibacterial peptides and for resistance to infections by Escherichia coli, both of which depend on the NF-kappa-B homolog Relish. Kenny is not required for antifungal host defense dependent on the Toll and Dif [Dorsal-related immunity factor].
