Jelleines are short antimicrobial peptides purified from Royal Jelly of honeybees (Fontana et al, 2004). Jelleine-I (Jellein-1), jelleine-II (Jellein-2), jelleine-III (Jellein-3), and jelleine-IV (Jellein-4), are cleavage products of a protein known as MRJP-1 [Major royal jelly protein 1], which is being referred to also as Bee-milk protein, and constitutes one member of a family of related genes (Malecová B, 2003; Ohashi K et al, 1997). This parent protein is known also as Royalactin.
