This protein is known also as MRJP-1 [Major royal jelly protein 1], which is being referred to also as Bee-milk protein, and constitutes one member of a family of related genes (Malecová B, 2003; Ohashi K et al, 1997). Cleavage products of Royalactin have been shown to possess antimicrobial activities (see: Jelleines).
Royalactin is a 57 kDa protein in royal jelly that has been shown to induce the differentiation of honeybee larvae into queens.
