integrins

this term refers to a family of heterodimeric single-pass cell surface transmembrane proteins that are formed by the non-covalent association of a number of integrin-alpha subunits (alpha-integrins) with integrin-beta subunits (beta-integrins). Collectively, these are often being referred to as Alpha/beta-integrins (for overview see: Humphries MJ, 2000; Hynes, 2002; Campbell and Humphries, 2011). Integrins are expressed by a wide range of cell types, but, depending upon their subunit composition, may also show restricted expression patterns on only a few cell types.
