Neutrophil extracellular traps
abbr. NETs. These extracellular structures are formed by stimulated neutrophils and have been shown to be able to capture and kill microorganisms (Brinkmann and Zychlinsky, 2007; Brinkmann et al, 2004). Palic et al (2007) have observed such structures also in fish neutrophils. The formation of extracellular traps is seen not only with many infectious diseases and sepsis, but also with allergic reactions and autoimmune diseases.
