This Drosophila melanogaster neuropeptide, identified by Ida et al (2011), is encoded by gene CG40733, which also gives rise to dRYamide-2. The peptide has no significant structural similarities to known bioactive peptides. When administered to blowflies, dRYamide-1 suppresses feeding motivation. The receptor for this peptide has been identified by Ida et al (2011) as NepYR [Neuropeptide Y receptor-like].
Maeda et al (2015) have reported that the neuropeptide decreases feeding motivation in the blowfly Phormia regina by suppressing the early feeding behavior called proboscis extension reflex and decreasing the responsiveness of the sugar receptor.
