Cytochrophins are breakdown products of human mitochondrial cytochrome b (Brantl et al, 1985). Cytochrophin-4 (YPFT, Tyr-Pro-Phe-Thr, differing from endomorphin-2 only in a single amino acid) corresponds to cytochrome b(345-348). It shows affinity to mu-opioid, kappa-opioid, and delta-opioid receptors (Liebmann et al, 1989). Injections of cytochrophin-4 directly into the lobus parolfactorius of chicken has been shown to cause amnesia and to inhibit passive avoidance memory. The effect of cytochrophin-4 is counteracted by endomorphin-2 (Freeman and Young, 2000). The authors have suggested that cytochrophin-4 does not act via the mu
