Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome b is being referred to also as Complex III subunit 3, Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit 3, UQCR3 [Ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase complex cytochrome b subunit] (for overview see: Esposti et al, 1993; Rieske, 1976; Weiss, 1976). It is part of a complex in the respiratory chain that generates an electrochemical potential coupled to ATP synthesis.
