This bioactive peptide fragment (see also: cryptides) is derived from Cyr-61 [Cysteine-rich angiogenic inducer 61, cysteine-rich 61] (CCN1), a member of the CCN family of secreted cysteine-rich growth regulators (Karagiannis and Popel, 2007). Cyrostatin [Cyr-61(234-251) or CCN1(234-251)] [TSWSQCSKTCGTGISTRV] corresponds to residues 234-251 of Cyr-61 (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008). The primary structure of this peptide is similar to the thrombospondin type 1 domains found in thrombospondin-1, thrombospondin-2, the metalloproteinases ADAMTS1
