contrapsins

this term, found in older references, refers mostly to rat, mouse, and guinea pig plasma proteins (Hill et al, 1984; Takahara and Sinohara, 1983; Suzuki Y et al, 1991) that are members of a superfamily of structurally similar but functionally diverse serine protease inhibitors collectively called serpins (Silverman et al, 2001). Some of these proteins inhibit trypsin-like proteases and others chymotrypsin-like proteases. Kordula et al (1994) have identified the rat contrapsins as acute phase proteins produced by hepatocytes.
