abbr. cheRNAs. These long non-coding RNAs with a median length of approximately 2000 nucleotides (Werner and Ruthenburg, 2015) are tightly associated with chromatin. They constitute a large group of regulatory long non-coding RNAs that are different from enhancer RNAs but share some features with enhancer RNAs. Virtually all chromatin-enriched enhancer RNAs reside within class I transposable elements, are expressed in a cell type specific manner, promote changes in chromatin architecture, and their expression positively correlates with the expression of neighboring protein-coding genes (Werner et al, 2017).
