Cerebellins constitute a family of secreted proteins that form homomeric or heteromeric complexes (Iijima et al, 2007) and may generally serve as a new class of transneuronal cytokines involved in the regulation of synapse development and synaptic plasticity in various brain regions (Yuzaki, 2008, 2010). The precursor proteins contain a C1q-like domain found in complement component C1q subunits (see also: C1q family).
