[bushy neurons] This cell type is found in the anteroventral cochlear nucleus. Spherical bushy cells are found in the anterior division (Cant and Morest, 1979; Webster and Trune, 1982) and are differentiated into large spherical and small spherical cells. Globular bushy cells in the posterior division near the entrance of the auditory nerve to the cochlear nucleus have an oval soma with an eccentric nucleus and a short-bushy dendritic tree (Brawer et al, 1974; Tolbert and Morest, 1982). The three subtypes of bushy cells differ in size and histological staining as well as in projection patterns. All three types of neurons are engaged in processing sound information.
