This term is used by histologists/pathologists for atypical cells in cervical smears that cannot be classified easily as benign, suspicious, or malignant. Although relatively rare, this categorisation requires follow-up owing to the risk of high-grade squamous or glandular lesions or endometrial neoplasia (Munro et al, 2015).
