aptamers

[aptamer]

an aptamer (from Latin aptus, meaning "fitting") is a short strand of synthetic nucleic acids (usually RNA but also DNA) selected from randomized combinatorial nucleic acid libraries by virtue of its ability to bind to a predetermined specific target molecule with high affinity and specificity. The procedure generating such aptamers has been termed SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) (Brody and Gold, 2000; Gold et al, 1997; Gold, 1995; Famulok et al, 1999; for overview see also: Hori et al, 2018).

Aptamers have been generated against a large variety of molecules ranging from amino acids, disaccharides, and antibiotics to complex proteins. Selection of a target-specific aptamer requires numerous liquid-handling steps, including repeated PCR ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
