[angiocrine factor]
The term angiocrine has been coined by Butler et al (2010). It refers to the observation that the endothelium can act as a tissue capable of releasing growth factors and or cytokines, which can act in a paracrine manner on neighbouring cells. Angiocrine factors may comprise secreted factors as well as membrane-bound molecules or membrane proteins that can give rise to secreted variants. The term lymphangiocrine has been coined to refer to lymphatics as an endocrine tissue. Thus, the use of the term lymphangiocrine factors simply puts the focus on factors produced by endothelial cells in lymphatic tissues. These factors may or may not be the same as those produced by
