[PZ-dependent protease inhibitor; protein Z-dependent protease inhibitor] This plasma protein inhibits the activated coagulation factor Xa. The major site of production is the liver. The activity of ZPI requires the presence of phospholipid vesicles and calcium ions and protein Z (PZ), a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein, as a cofactor (Han et al, 1999; Yin et al, 2000).
Han et al (1999) have reported that ZPI is a serpin. Sequence analysis suggests that ZPI is likely the human homolog of rat rasp1, a rat liver regeneration-associated serpin. An alternative designation for this protein is SERPINA10 [serpin peptidase inhibitor clade A member 10
