XT-7 is a C-terminally alpha-amidated peptide (GLLGPLLKIAAKVGSNLLamide) with antimicrobial activity isolated from norepinephrine-stimulated skin secretions of the diploid clawed frog, Xenopus tropicalis (Ali et al, 2001). XT-7 shows limited structural similarity to the spacer region of Xenopus laevis procaeruleins. Peptide XT-7 is active against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, and clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Streptococcus group C, Shigella sonnei, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae. The peptide is hemolytic against human erythrocytes.
