[Cytomegalovirus UL141 protein] This gene is found in the genome of cytomegalovirus. Some high-passage strains of cytomegalovirus have been shown to carry deletions of the viral UL141 gene. Tomasec et al (2005) have reported that the UL141 protein downregulates the expression of the poliovirus receptor PVR (CD155) on NK-cells, a ligand for the activating receptor DNAM-1 (CD226), and thus mediates efficient protection of virus-infected cells against cell lysis by NK-cells. UL141 protein also promotes efficient downregulation of the NK-cell activating ligand CD112, another ligand of CD226
