The protein is being referred to also as UTMOD [Ubiquitous tropomodulin] (Conley et al, 2001), reflecting its expression in all adult and fetal tissues examined. Human and mouse cDNAs for Tropomodulin 3 have been cloned by Cox and Zoghbi (2000). In the mouse, Tropomodulin expression is present as early as embryonic day 7 and continues throughout development.
Tropomodulin 3 is one of four members of a family of proteins that bind to tropomyosins and cap the pointed ends of actin filaments to regulate their length and stability (Yamashiro et al, 2012).
