Tritrpticin

abbr. also Trp3. This antimicrobial cationic peptide of 13 amino aicds (VRRFPWWWPFLRR; Val-Arg-Arg-Phe-Pro-Trp-Trp-Trp-Pro-Phe-Leu-Arg-Arg) has been identified by Schibli et al (1999). The same peptide has been described also as Tripticin.

Tritrpticin is a member of the cathelicidin family and is found in porcine cathelicidin cDNA. Tritrpticin has a broad spectrum of antibacterial and antifungal activities and hemolytic activity comparable to that of indolicidin (Yang et al, 2002). Salay et al (2004) have reported that Tritrpticin forms ion channel-like structures in planar lipid bilayers.
