[TGF-beta-repressible serine proteinase inhibitor; Transforming growth factor-beta repressible serpin] This rat serpin (397 amino acids) has been identified by Chipuk et al (2002). Its expression is transcriptionally downregulated by TGF-beta. Trespin is considered the rat counterpart of human Bomapin (72 % amino acid sequence homology) but exhibits different tissue expression, cellular localization, and proteinase specificity compared with Bomapin. Trespin mRNA is expressed in many tissues, including brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung, prostate, skin, spleen, and stomach. Trespin forms detergent-stable and thermostable complexes with plasmin and elastase but not subtilisin A, trypsin, chymotrypsin, thrombin
