(approved gene symbol) [thyrotropin releasing hormone degrading enzyme] This enzyme is a highly specific metallopeptidase known also as pyroglutamate aminopeptidase 2 or Pyroglutamyl peptidase II (abbr. PPII; EC3.4.19.6). The gene has been cloned by Schomburg et al (1999).
The enzyme cleaves and inactivates the hormone TRH [Thyrotropin releasing hormone; Thyreotropin releasing hormone]. The enzyme is being referred to also as TRH degrading ectoenzyme or Thyrotropin releasing hormone-degrading ectoenzyme
