Spexin

Spexin has been discovered in the mammalian proteome by bioinformatics methods as a putative peptide hormone (Mirabeau et al, 2007). Mirabeau et al (2007) have reported that Spexin is localized to secretory granules in a transfected pancreatic cell line and is recovered from the cell supernatant. Spexin is expressed in the submucosal layer of the mouse esophagus and stomach, and a predicted peptide from the spexin precursor induces muscle contraction in a rat stomach explant assay.

The approved gene symbol is SPX and Spexin corresponds to SPX(36-49) (alternative designation: NPQ(36-49)). The gene is known also as C12ORF39 [ ... ... ... ...
