abbr. SGF (a term with multiple meanings). This factor is obtained from demineralised human bones (Farley and Bayling, 1982). It is produced also by osteoblast-like cell lines (MC3T3-E1) (Linkhardt et al, 1986; Wergedal et al, 1986). The factor induces the synthesis of DNA in cultured bone cells and stimulates the synthesis of collagen in bone organ cultures (Mohan et al, 1984). The factor has been shown to be identical with IGF-2 (see: IGF) (Mohan et al, 1988).
