This antimicrobial peptide, YYGGGYKYKHWGCR, from the centipede Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans binds to the surface of microorganisms via a specific interaction with lipopolysaccharides, lipoteichoic acid, and peptidoglycans, The peptide is active against the Acne-associated Propionibacterium acnes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including drug-resistant strains. It is active also against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, and shows little hemolytic activity (Lee et al, 2017).
