These peptides from snake venom (Atractaspis engaddensis; (Israeli burrowing asp), Israeli mole viper) show sequence similarity to endothelins and display vasoconstrictor activity (Bdolah et al, 1989; Ducancel et al, 1993; Kloog et al, 1988; Takasaki et al, 1992). These toxins affect the heart and may cause cardiac arrest probably as a result of coronary vasospasm (Takasaki et al, 1988; Mourier et al, 2012). Some of these toxins bind to endothelin receptors (Sokolovsky et al, 1991, 1992; Williams et al, 1991).
