Salusin-alpha (28 amino acids (AIFIFIRWLLKLGHHGRAPP), and a 29 amino acid form, termed salusin-alpha(29gly), which contains gly29) and Salusin-beta (SGALPPAPAAPRPALRAQRAGPAGPGAKamide) are derived from a splice product of the TOR2A [torsin family 2 member A, torsin 2A] gene, which encodes a protein of 321 amino acids (Shichiri et al, 2003). The gene has been called TORP1 [torsin-related protein-1] by Ozelius et al (1997). TOR2A mRNA is expressed ubiquitously, and immunoreactive salusin-alpha and salusin-beta are detected in many human
