[SCID repopulating cells] This is the name given to hematopoietic stem cells initiating engraftment in sub-lethally irradiated NOD/SCID immunodeficient mice (see also: MRA: [marrow repopulating ability]).

The percentage of engrafted human cells in the bone marrow, spleen or peripheral blood five to eight weeks after transplantation is taken as an in vivo assay for the presence of hematopoietic stem cells.
