[scavenger receptor that binds phosphatidylserine and oxidized lipoprotein] The gene for this factor was isolated from a cDNA library of THP-1 cells stimulated with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (Shimaoka et al, 2000). The protein is a type 1 membrane protein (C-terminus inside) consisting of 254 amino acids. This factor is classified as one of the CXC-Chemokines but also has characteristics of CC-Chemokines and a structure similar to fractalkine (neurotactin) in having a transmembrane region and a chemokine domain suspended by a mucin-like stalk.
