[SPRY domain-containing protein 4] The cDNA encoding this protein has been cloned from a human brain cDNA library (Zhong et al, 2008). SPRYD4 is expressed ubiquitously; it is expressed strongly in kidney, bladder, brain, thymus and stomach, and weakly expressed in liver, testis, uterus, spleen and lung. Zahid et al (2019) have reported that SPRYD4 functions as a tumor suppressor, showing that its expression is downregulated in primary hepatocellular carcinoma tissues compared to non-tumor tissues. SPRYD4 expression is associated with a good prognosis and its expression becomes downregulated when tumors progress towards more aggressive stages and higher grades. Exogenous SPRYD4 expression inhibits the proliferation of the tumor cells by inducing
