Vannahme et al (1999) who cloned a SPOCK2 cDNA from a human brain cDNA library, have referred to the protein as testican-2 (abbr. sometimes TICN2), a term referring to the sequence relationship with testican-1 (see: SPOCK1). The presence of a signal peptide sequence and the lack of hydrophobic transmembrane protein-like regions implies that SPOCK2 is a secreted protein (see also: Schnepp et al, 2005).
