[sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 13] The gene encoding SIGLEC-13 has been identified by Angata et al (2004). The protein is a member of a family of transmembrane proteins known as SIGLECs. SIGLEC-13 is found in Pan troglodytes (Chimpanzee) and is thought to function as an adhesion molecule that mediates sialic acid-dependent binding to cells similar to other members of the SIGLEC family. The gene is not found in humans.
