[substance immunologically cross-reactive with insulin] This protein of 150 kDa immunologically cross-reacts with insulin. The protein is found in murine myeloid leukemia cells and human and murine melanoma cells (Levanat and Pavelic, 1989, 1990). It functions as an autocrine growth modulator supporting the growth of these cells in soft agar (see also: Colony formation assay). The factor is also a mitogen for a number of human and murine transformed and normal cells (Osmak et al, 1989).
