[serum-derived HA associated protein; serum-derived hyaluronan associated protein] SHAP binds to hyaluronan and hyaluronan fragments and has been shown to correspond to the heavy chains of the Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor (ITIH1 [Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor H1], ITIH2 [Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor H2], ITIH3 [Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor H3] (see: ITI) (Huang et al, 1993).
Yamaguchi Y et al (2017) have reported that SHAP is a biomarker for inflammatory bowel disease that is related to disease activity in certain types of colitis and may affect disease pathogenesis.
