[Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor; often also only Inter-alpha-inhibitor] ITI is a serine protease inhibitor of approximately 220 kDa mainly synthesized in the liver and found in human serum at concentrations of 0.4-0.5 g/L. Substrates of ITI include trypsin, chymotrypsin, and a neutrophil elastase.
The inhibitor consists of three evolutionarily related polypeptide chains called heavy chains:
