[stromal cell-derived factor-4] This protein has been identified independently as a Golgi-resident calcium binding protein, Cab45 [45 kDa calcium-binding protein; calcium-binding protein 45 kDa] (Koivu et al, 1997; Scherer et al, 1996).
SDF-4 has been shown to be a component of transport system that allows isoforms of the protein to form oligomers that can bind a variety of specific cargo molecules and export them without the need for a bona fide transmembrane cargo receptor (von Blume et al, 2012; Crevenna et al, 2016; for overview see: Bland and von Blume, 2017).
