Several human stroma-derived cell lines (see: Stromal cell lines) have been described under this name. They have been obtained from long-term BMC (bone marrow culture) of hematologically normal patients and patients with hematological diseases after immortalisation with SV40.

The cells have been shown to express M-CSF mRNA and TGF-beta mRNA. Some lines also express mRNAs for IL6 and IL1-beta (see: IL1) (see also: RT-PCR quantitation of cytokines). The cells do not express GM-CSF or G-CSF mRNA. Their functional capacities in supporting Hematopoiesis ... ... ... ...
