Rugosin A (GLLNTFKDWAISIAKGAGKGVLTTLSCKLDKSC),
Rugosin B (SLFSLIKAGAKFLGKNLLKQGAQYAACKVSKEC), and
Rugosin C (GILDSFKQFAKGVGKDLIKGAAQGVLSTMSCKLAKTC) have been isolated from the skin of Rana rugosa (Suzuki et al, 1995).
Rugosin A shows structural homology (45 %) with brevinin-2 of Rana porosa brevipoda. It strongly inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria (e. g., Staphylococcus aureus 209P).
Rugosin B is a minor component. It shows less homology (33 %) with brevinin-2 and is strongly antimicrobial against Gram-negative (e. g., Escherichia coli NIHJ) and
