Rubiscolin-5 (YPLDL) and Rubiscolin-6 (YPLDLF) sequences are found in the large subunit of spinach D-ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) and are released by enzymatic digestion. Both peptides are selective for the delta opioid receptor and show antinociceptive activity in mice after i.c.v. or oral administration (Yang et al, 2001). Kaneko et al (2014) have reported that orally administered rubiscolin-6 suppresses high-fat diet intake. This suppression is blocked by centrally administered naltrindole, an antagonist for the delta-receptor.
