[Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides antimicrobial peptide] The cDNA encoding Rhamp has been cloned from the salivary glands of the female tick Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides. Rhamp is a cysteine-rich protein with chymotrypsin and elastase inhibitory activity. Rhamp markedly inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, and Escherichia coli . It also shows low hemolytic activity (Zhang et al, 2011).
