[Replication and transcription activator] This protein is encoded mostly by KSHV open reading frame 50 (KSHV orf50). The protein is known also as lytic transactivator (KSHV Lyta; also: HHV-8 Lyta) or ART [Activator of Replication and Transcription]. Epstein Barr virus RTA and murine MHV-68 RTA [gammaherpesvirus 68 RTA] are conserved proteins that play an important role in reactivation from latency of these viruses (Wu et al, 2001).
