RKIP

[RAF kinase inhibitor protein] This protein has been identified by Yeung et al (1999). RKIP inhibits the phosphorylation and activation, by raf1, of MEK, a kinase involved in the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases and thus controls cell proliferation and differentiation of different cell types (Trakul et al, 2005; Yeung et al, 1999).

Chatterjee et al (2004) have reported that RKIP expression is upregulated rapidly during induction of chemotherapy-triggered cell death by apoptosis in human prostate and breast cancer cell lines.
