(approved gene symbol) [regulator of cell cycle] This protein is encoded by gene C13orf15 [chromosome 13 open reading frame 15] and has been identified independently as RGC-32 [response gene to complement 32] by Badea et al (1998) as one of several genes upregulated after complement activation in primary rat oligodendrocytes. Overexpression of RGCC enhances DNA synthesis and progression through the cell cycle by modulating the activity of cell cycle specific kinases Sublytic complement activation also enhances RGCC mRNA expression in human aortic smooth muscle cells and induces nuclear translocation of the protein (Badea et al, 2002).
