The gene encoding this protein, which is a 17 kDa secreted C-type lectin, has been cloned by Hartupee et al (2001). The gene has been cloned independently as RELP [REG-like protein] by Kaemaeraeinen et al (2003), who have reported upregulated expression in inflammatory and metaplastic gastrointestinal mucosa.
